Top Of The World Observatory (is for sale)

Welcome to Top Of The World Observatory

Please contact 575.772.2728 if you are interested in purchasing the observatory.

2016-05-14: The observatory is still for sale. I am willing to split up the (2) parcels but then it won't be as good a purchase. Additionally the property line would run right outside the front door of the observatory. I had to buy two adjacent plots because they had split the highest point in the middle :/

This is a 360-degree aerial view of the observatory. If you view the image above and then look at the flash video below you will see how the camera actually looks like (even this image is lower resolution than the actual video.) I also need to remember to clean up all the scrap metal before creating aerial videos.

Since I can't "re-partition" the sub-divided plots we're stuck with what we have. The road coming up to the observatory is also on the other adjoining lot, but we can create an easement so that you would always have access.

If you want to lease the observatory we may be able to arrange that.

Located in beautiful Catron County New Mexico, situated approximately 180 miles southwest of Albuquerque, approximately 100 miles west of Socorro and about 70 miles east of the Arizona border. Lots of trees.

This is a large property (33.31 acres.) There are (2) parcels adjoining each other. One parcel is 15.41 and one is 17.90. This is suitable for almost any purpose. Large enough to live on. Suitable for grazing for various livestock with access to a high capacity well. At least 12+ acres level ground in contiguous area, and other smaller 2-3 acre level areas are scattered throughout each area accessible via private roads on the property itself. Two separate gated entrances on the eastern and western sides of the property along the old stage road. Please examine Google Earth and Microsoft aerial mapping and you can see the extent of the private roads I built within the property. Make sure to look at the topographic map to see how much level ground is available, there is a lot.

Not only is it an amazing Bortle Class 1 site, it's also an excellent retreat location! Check out Catron County's demographics… Everyone here is well-prepared for the most part.

Updated: 2010-04-07 DSL and phone now available. If you work on the net this is perfect for you.

One of the greatest resources we have is the Clear Sky Clock for Top Of The World Observatory. Our benefactor, Attila Danko has been kind enough to provide it through thick and thin. We are immensely grateful and urge all astronomers to help support this invaluable service. The data provided by the clear sky clock is slightly more accurate than NWS: ABQ weather forecast but we use both to keep us informed. The sky is Bortle Class 1 (explanation) which is pretty amazing at times.

NOTE: I made a mistake earlier the total property size was wrong. I described it as 38.5 acres, how embarrassing to make a basic math error like that.
